Not only renowned for its buzzing scene, crafty cocktails and tantalising culinary delights, this iconic beachfront venue gets a gold star from the UN’s Climate Neutral Now initiative for its zero-waste operations – all without forgoing the splashes of luxury and style those who have made the pilgrimage here expect. So get in early, flop onto a plush daybed by the infinity pool and kick up your heels: you’ve got a lot of relaxing to do.

The food: plant-led & locally sourced

Come for the beach club vibes, stay for the food. The club’s plant-led menu is inspired by its philosophy to live and eat better, and incorporates organic ingredients from local farmers and fresh seafood from the archipelago. Crunch on crispy cauliflower bites, slurp fresh-from-the-sea oysters with a piquant shallot mignonette dressing, or tuck into a nourish bowl topped with kale, rocket, sweet potato and beetroot for an oh-so-healthy snack. If you’re sharing, don’t go past a platter: there’s a seafood option, a charcuterie board, a platter of succulent grilled meats and a smorgasbord of plant-based bites.

The drinks: inventive mixology

No matter your drink of choice, Potato Head Beach Club will have something to wet your whistle, with bespoke concoctions drawing on local fruits, spirits and spices. On a health kick? Try a ginger, lemongrass and turmeric tonic from Jamu. Share a Bali Boat jumbo cocktail with your partner in crime and savour the sweet coconut, pineapple, hibiscus syrup and vodka flavours. When in doubt, you can’t beat a bucket of beers to enjoy in the sun. You’ll also find a range of coffees, teas and juices that are ideal if you’re starting your morning off here.

The location: Bali’s hottest hub

There’s nowhere better suited to host this world-famous beach club than Seminyak, Bali’s coolest neighbourhood. Step outside and turn your head left to right: in both directions you can stumble upon Bali’s best restaurants and bars. Icons including Motel Mexicola, Mrs Sippy and Seasalt Seminyak are all within walking distance, so you can rest assured that Potato Head is within good company. Its enviable beachfront location means you can be sipping cocktails and listening to DJ-spun beats one moment and splashing about in the ocean the next.

The vibe: ‘good times HQ’

Everyone who’s anyone flocks to Potato Head Beach Club to experience the ultra-cool, laidback vibes. From sun-worshippers to families, couples and friends, all are invited to enjoy the live music, three restaurants, three bars and the ocean-facing infinity pool. The beach club achieves ‘cool with a conscience’ through its admirable sustainability scheme: the club has eliminated all plastic straws, coasters and cocktail napkins, and serves drinks in reusable coconut shells or wooden cups. To top it off, the UN has declared Potato Head the first hospitality company in Indonesia to be climate-neutral.

The design: reclaimed & inspired

The Colosseum at Potato Head Beach Club, one of Bali's most legendary beach clubs

The first thing you’ll notice on approaching this iconic beach club is the ‘Colosseum’, a towering pillar designed by celebrated Indonesian architect Andra Matin that’s made from mismatched 18th-century teak window shutters. This zero-waste ethos can be found throughout the trendy beach club through the reclaimed wood furnishings, salvaged bricks, recovered driftwood and upcycled furniture. Meanwhile, the exterior is designed to make the most of the beachfront location; the open plan means tons of natural light, fresh air flow and unobstructed views of the rolling surf.

The resort: luxe suites & priority access

With the beach club being a home-away-from-home for countless well-heeled travellers, it was only natural that luxury accommodation should follow – today, Potato Head is an entire resort encompassing luxe suites and studios, restaurants and immersive art and music experiences.

The best part of being a guest here is that you can enjoy priority access to the beach club’s sought-after daybeds. Feeling hungry? Feast on traditional Indonesian flavours with an innovative twist at Kaum, taste the ocean at Ijen seafood restaurant, and watch the sunset from Sunset Park’s rooftop alongside tropical cocktails and light bites. Meanwhile, a glimmering infinity pool, Sweet Potato Kids’ Club and an authentic Indonesian health tonic juice bar are just the beginning.
