It’s official: travel is back – and it looks like we’re not the only ones thinking about where we’re going next. We’ve conducted one of our biggest travel surveys yet, with over 1,200 respondents divulging their holiday plans for the year ahead.

After two years spent daydreaming from our living rooms, wanderlust is at a level we’ve never seen before. October 2021 was the biggest month in Luxury Escapes’ history, as Australian border restrictions were removed and the Fiji travel bubble became a reality. In 2022, an incredible nine out of 10 Australians are planning international travel – with 55% intending to splurge more than they usually would

So, what are the hottest destinations everybody’s rushing to book? Here’s what our Travel Trends report revealed.

Top Travel Destinations for 2022

Of the Australians surveyed, 84% are optimistic about international travel in 2022, with destinations not too far from home, including Fiji, proving the most sought-after.

Fiji

When the Fiji travel bubble was announced, sales of Fiji holidays at Luxury Escapes exploded, increasing by 488% on the month prior. It’s not surprising: with Aussies hankering to leave their shores, the palm-fringed islands of Fiji, just a short flight away, are the perfect tonic after months of lockdowns. Its popularity is set to continue: Fiji was ranked the number one destination for Aussie travellers in 2022, with 18% of respondents eyeing it for their next trip.

“I believe Fiji is loved by Australians because it’s close and so convenient to get to. Its beaches, snorkelling, water quality, resorts, hinterland and tourism experiences are as good as anywhere in the world,” says Brent Hill, CEO of Tourism Fiji. “Coupled with that amazing Fijian spirit – the bula spirit – which makes Fijians so hospitable, genuine and warm, it’s easy to fall in love with Fiji.”

Bali

Bali is back in a big way! The much-loved island haven is open for business once again and is welcoming Aussies(and visitors from selected countries) back for quarantine-free stays. We can’t wait to get back to the jungle of Ubud, the beach clubs of Seminyak and the golden sands of Nusa Dua – and neither can our customers.

Now that we’ve been given the green light, we’re expecting Bali packages to fly off the shelves faster than ever before.

“In the 20 days since the Bali borders opened, our average daily sales for Indonesia have increased 594% compared to the previous three months,” says Luxury Escapes’ Pricing Manager Michael Condello.
