What to do in Singapore During the Grand Prix

The Singapore Grand Prix is one of the most thrilling events in the city’s calendar. Here’s how to make the most of every moment.

Singapore roars into action at the end of every September, when the likes of Ferrari, Mercedes and McLaren roll into town for the Singapore Grand Prix (30 September to 2 October 2022). There’s no better time to visit the buzzing metropolis, with lightning-fast laps creating an electric atmosphere like nowhere else in the world.

Even if the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc and Daniel Ricciardo aren’t enough to set your motor running, Singapore’s world-class restaurants, iconic attractions and inspiring cultural landmarks are sure to make for an amazing holiday.

Catch live music at the Grand Prix

The Grand Prix isn’t only about the need for speed – the entertainment is just as thrilling and this year is no different. On Friday, GRAMMY-nominated producer Marshmello will take centre stage at Zone 4, while on Saturday, it will be the Irish heartthrobs, Westlife. Iconic punk band Green Day will take centre stage on the Sunday, closing out the festival with their rock anthems. With a Luxury Escapes package, you’ll get access to all three days of entertainment, so you won’t miss a moment of the action.

Raffles champagne afternoon tea

Have afternoon tea at Raffles

A trip to Singapore isn’t complete with a taste of a Singapore Sling, and there’s no better place to do it than Raffles. The charming heritage hotel is the birthplace of the delicious gin-based drink – bartender Ngiam Tong Boon came up with the combination way back in 1915. However, it’s not just cocktails that keep curious connoisseurs coming back – the classic afternoon tea, served in the Grand Lobby, is a refined affair, with finger sandwiches, house-made scones and cakes and seasonal delicacies, all washed down with a glass of champagne. The exceptional experience is part of your five-star Grand Prix Luxury Escape, making it easier than ever to experience Singapore at its electric best.

Indulge in a gourmet dinner at Marina Bay Sands

Dine among the stars at Marina Bay Sands, the towering resort in the heart of Singapore’s business and entertainment district. You’ll already have access to the SkyPark Observation Deck with your Luxury Escapes package, so why not treat yourself to an incredible dinner after soaking up the views? There are more than 45 restaurants to choose from, including Din Tai Fung, CHINOISERIE Modern Asian by Justin Quek and Le Noir, but it’s hard to look past the platters of oysters at db Bistro & Oyster Bar by Daniel Boulud, or the Michelin-starred fare at CUT by Wolfgang Puck.

Immerse yourself in nature at Gardens by the Bay

Singapore may be a magnificent metropolis of glittering skyscrapers and urban landscapes, but it’s also home to pockets of tropical paradise just waiting to be explored. Step away from the circuit to immerse yourself in the lush greenery of Gardens by the Bay, Singapore’s national garden. With three different areas to explore, which include cooled conservatories, Supertrees, Tulipmania, Orchid Extravaganza and Blossom Beats, you’ll soon lose yourself in the wonders of the plant kingdom. Best of all, entry is included in your Luxury Escapes package, along with a one-way transfer from the hotel to the gardens.

Sample craft beers at Singapore’s oldest brewery

Sip on authentic local beer on the banks of the river at Brewerkz, the city’s oldest brewery. The multi-award-winning team brews more than 12 different drops, ranging from the signature Bohemian Pilsner and Golden Ale, to the Singapore-themed Afterburner Pacific Pale Ale and 4AM Double IPA. Sample them all at their Riverside Point or One Fullerton outposts, both of which feature alfresco seating along Singapore’s waterways. If the waterside breeze isn’t enough to keep you cool in the city’s humidity, order a serving of beer ice cream to beat the heat.

Take in some art at the National Gallery of Singapore

Discover the world’s largest collection of Southeast Asian modern art at the National Gallery of Singapore. Spread across two buildings – the City Hill and the former Supreme Court – there are more than 9,000 artworks to admire from artists across Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, The Philippines, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and Brunei. Wander through the two long-term exhibitions or catch rolling shows like Antony Gormley and Wu Guanzhong. A diverse program of events also means there’s always something new to see or learn about, even if you’ve visited before.

Go on a thrilling night safari

Make some new furry friends with a Night Safari in Mandai Wildlife Reserve. The world’s first nocturnal wildlife park is home to more than 900 animals from 100 species, 41 of which are considered ‘threatened’. Learn more about the unique animals with a wildlife tour, or catch a Creatures of the Night show to see otters, binturongs and civets show off their natural talents alongside hyenas and the big-eared African serval. If you’re popping by on the weekend, you may even catch the big cats devouring a snack or two during a feeding.

Shop ‘til you drop at ION Orchard

Cut laps of your own at one of Singapore’s coolest shopping centres, ION Orchard. The architectural marvel has something for everyone, with a mix of high-end and accessible brands, with the likes of Burberry and Dolce & Gabbana sitting alongside Ted Baker and Calvin Klein.

Should you shop up an appetite, you’re bound to find something to satisfy among the huge range of restaurants and casual eateries, including Taste Paradise, Lucky Dumpling and Ramen Nagi. Don’t forget to venture up to ION Sky, the rooftop deck for jaw-dropping views of the city below – if you look hard enough, you might even catch a view of the Grand Prix track.
